The official currency is the Tanzanian Shilling (TZS).
- ATMs are available in major towns and tourist areas, such as Stone Town and popular beach resorts.
- Credit cards are widely accepted in larger establishments (mostly hotels), but it’s advisable to carry cash (TZS, US Dollar or Euro) for smaller shops and local markets.
In order to offer the best price, our trips must be paid in cash.

Tips
Tips are a customary practice to show appreciation for good service. While not always obligatory, it’s generally expected, especially in the tourism and hospitality industry.
Tipping hotel staff like housekeepers, porters, and bellboys is customary. A small amount (around $1-2 per service) is appreciated. For guided tours and excursions, tipping your tour guide and driver is customary. The amount varies, but around $5 per day is a common range.
Tipping in Tanzanian Shillings (TZS) is preferred, but tipping in US Dollars is widely accepted and appreciated.
